Hazanim

Henri Hamra - Hazan

Henri was born in Damascus, Syria, and moved to Brooklyn when he was 15 years old. Henri comes from a family of many Rabbis and hazanim and has been a professional hazan for the past 10 years. His father Rabbi Joseph Hamra has been a tremendous influence on his life and inspired him to pursue Hazanut. Henri studied hazanut from a very early age and has mastered it through the help of his older brother and father. With his fond love for the great pizmonim and melodic hymns that our ancestors have sung for hundreds of years, Henri will introduce new and familiar ones to us to enjoy and uplift our prayers and keep our cherished traditions alive.

Along with his wife Aleen and their children Joseph and Eli and newest addition Louisa (just this summer), Henri and his family are going to be a wonderful addition to our community here at Kol Israel. We look forward to his beautiful melodies and inspirational tefilot.
